He would pose as a delivery executive to gain entry inside apartment complexes and steal gold and silver ornaments. Madhapur DCP G Vineeth said they recovered 26 tola gold, 300 grams of silver and two motorbikes, all worth 16 lakh from his possession.
“Abhilash bought a steel bolt cutter in Balanagar to open the locked doors. He only used to select apartments and gain entry into the premises by posing as a delivery executive of e-marketing portals. After committing the burglary, he would carry the damaged lock with him,” the DCP said.
Acting on specific information, Miyapur police arrested Abhilash at RTC Colony in Miyapur.
Abhilash, a native of Vikrampuram village in Srikakulam district, dropped out of mechanical engineering course and came to Hyderabad a few years ago in search of livelihood. He started doing odd jobs and soon started committing burglaries to meet his expenses, Vineeth said.
In the past 10 days, he committed three offences in Chandanagar, Miyapur and Gachibowli areas, forcing police to turn their focus on his activities and ultimately leading to his arrest. He is a resident of HMT Hills in KPHB Colony.
Meanwhile, police advised people to instal central locks and CCTV cameras at their homes, appoint trained security personnel and not leave valuables while going out of station.
