Mahesh Pandey, a well-known scriptwriter and producer in the Indian television business, has been detained by Mumbai police for allegedly defrauding a film producer out of Rs 2.65 crore. Mahesh Pandey, well known for his work on the famous television drama Kasautii Zindagii Kay, has become entangled in a court battle that has rattled the entertainment industry.
The Amboli police have confirmed that writer Mahesh Pandey was arrested in a cheating case. A senior police official said, ” He was arrested on a complaint filed by one Jatin Sethi who had alleged that he loaned him about Rs 2.65cr and Pandey had promised to return once he gets the money. But he did not even after he had the money. We arrested him and was at our police station for two days and is now sent to judicial custody.”
Producer Jatin Sethi’s lawyer, Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee, states, “At the behest of my client, an F.I.R. bearing no. 0487/2024 was registered by Amboli Police station against Mr Mahesh Premchand Pandey, his wife Mrs Madhu Mahesh Pandey and other family members, under Sections 406 and 420 r/w 34 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 for committing the acts of cheating my client, Mr Jatin Sethi of an amount of Rs. 2,65,00,000 (Rupees Two Crores Sixty-Five Lacs)”.
“That accordingly as the matter progressed and there was non-co-operation therefore, Mr. Mahesh Premchand Pandey was arrested by Amboli Police Station on 05.08.2024. He is currently in Judicial custody,” he added.

Mahesh Pandey’s career, which has spanned several years and included significant contributions to Indian television, is currently under intensive examination. Kasautii Zindagii Kay, the show that propelled him to prominence, is one of the most legendary soap operas in Indian television history. He also produced the TV show Vidya starring Meera Deosthale, under his production house banner. His association with such popular shows heightens the shock of the claims against him among fans and industry peers.
