In April 2022, Tata Motors unveiled the Curvv electric SUV concept and took everyone by surprise with its futuristic and sharp design language and the coupe-like sloping roofline. We later saw the Curvv in its close to production avatar at the 2023 Auto Expo in January and were again surprised to see how close the production version was to the concept model of the SUV. At the Auto Expo unveil, Tata Motors had claimed that it plans to launch the Curvv SUV in the market by early 2024, however, unlike the concept car, the SUV will first be offered with ICE powertrains. In pictures from a production facility, shared by a TOI Auto reader, we can see the shell of the Curvv and it confirms that the coupe SUV is close to the start of production. Here are the exclusive images.

Tata Motors has already announced that it plans to launch the Curvv SUV with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine option. The turbo petrol in the Curvv will be an all-new engine from Tata Motors and will also be making its debut in the new SUV. Other production friendly elements that we saw in the ICE Curvv, included traditional ORVMs instead of the camera setup that we saw on the concept. Moreover, Tata Motors has recently filed a trademark for a land vehicle called ‘Tata Frest’, it is possible that the production version Curvv, could be launched as the Frest.

Coming back to the production shell, while the Curvv or Frest seems to retain its overall design and shape, we do not see the hidden air-vent feature at the back of the sloping roofline or C-pillar, as we saw in the close-to production car in January. Apart from that, the housing for the flush door handles are very prominently there and the production version also seems to have swapped the rounded wheel arches for a more squared off design.
If the recent update to the Nexon and Nexon EV are anything to go by, then it would be safe to assume that the production version of the Curvv or Frest SUV will be extremely close to the concept cars and will also retain the ultra-futuristic touches, such as the front and rear LED lighters with cool animations and the vertically stacked LED headlamp units.
