BAREILLY: A local court sentenced a Vipin Saxena (35) and brother Akash (33) to life in jail on Friday for killing the former’s 29-year-old wife Vineeta on August 16, 2021. The sentencing relied on the testimony of Vipin’s then six-year-old daughter, the lone eyewitness in the case.
After Vineeta had been found dead at home, Vipin told the cops that she had a quarrel with his brother Akash Saxena (33), following which she fell down the stairs and succumbed to her injuries, additional district government counsel Sachin Jaiswal said.
‘With start of an affair, Vipin started abusing wife physically’
Vineeta was married to the main accused Vipin in June, 2015. They were blessed with a baby girl in 2016. Things went awry a few years later when Vipin started having an affair with a local woman. He then began to physically abuse his wife. He also started demanding more money as dowry,” additional district government counsel Sachin Jaiswal told TOI.
Police achieved a breakthrough in the case only after Vipin’s daughter told police that her mother was killed by her dad and uncle.
An autopsy report mentioned “12 ante-mortem injuries, with eight deep cuts on the victim’s head”. The ADGC added: “Based on the minor’s crucial eyewitness account and other circumstantial evidence, the court in Bareilly found Vipin and Akash guilty under IPC sections 302 and 498-A, among others, and sentenced them to life in jail along with a fine of Rs 27,000 on Friday.”
