MUMBAI: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray said deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis wanted to become finance minister at the centre and had promised in 2019 that he would groom Aaditya (Thackeray) very well so that he could be made the CM after 2.5 years. He was speaking at a rally in Antop Hill for his party’s candidate from Mumbai South Central Anil Desai Saturday evening.
Uddhav said it was then BJP national president Amit Shah who had asked Fadnavis to wait outside Balasaheb’s (Thackeray) room at Matoshree, the Thackeray family home when Shah had come there to finalise the alliance with the Sena in 2019.Uddhav hit out at Fadnavis’s comments in which he called Balasaheb’s room at Matoshree as ‘some room’. Uddhav described Fadnavis as a worthless person without any shame, was a disgrace.
Fadnavis hit back at Uddhav’s allegations, saying that one doesn’t have to think to speak the truth. “I advised Aaditya Thackeray to contest the elections…Going forward, the party would have been handed over, the party, so he should get some grooming. But I had no intention of making him a minister, let alone the chief minister. But lying requires thinking. Once you lie, you lie again and again. Then you get exposed somewhere. Uddhav Thackeray got exposed. My old friend Uddhav Thackeray is a bit delusional. He said that I was to go to Delhi by making Aaditya Thackeray the chief minister. He must have gone mad. But I’m not mad,” Fadnavis said.
CM Eknath Shinde said there is a limit to lying. “He [Uddhav] wanted to become CM which he could not become in the Sena-BJP alliance. So he lied that Amit Shah promised him the CMship of 2.5 years. But Amit Shah has denied this,” CM Shinde said.
“I told Fadnavis don’t put things into Aaditya’s head of being chief minister. He’s just starting his career as an MLA, groom him but don’t put the idea of chief ministership in his head. But I asked how a senior leader like him would work under Aaditya [as chief minister]. Then he said after 2.5 years, I’ll head up [to Delhi] as I know things about the finance ministry. That means he wanted to become finance minister at the centre. Now he’s hitting back as I exposed him,” Uddhav said.
