NEW DELHI: An FIR has been filed against former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl. A case has been registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO) and 354 (A) IPC against him at Sadashivanagar police in Bengaluru on Thursday night.
The alleged incident took place on February 2, 2024, when the 17-year old, accompanied by her mother, had gone to seek Yediyurappa’s help in a cheating case. The mother reportedly lodged a sexual harassment complaint with the police on Thursday evening and the POCSO case was registered past midnight.
As of now, punishment for penetrative sexual assault is imprisonment of not less than 10 years, which can extend to life imprisonment. In case of a child below 16 years of age, the punishment extends to a term of not less than 20 years, but which may extend to imprisonment for life.
