Cricket legend Stuart MacGill has been charged with taking part in a large-scale cocaine deal that police believe is connected to an alleged kidnapping in Sydney’s north more than two years ago.
Detectives attached to NSW Police State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad launched an investigation into drug supply following Mr MacGill’s alleged kidnapping in Cremorne in April 2021.
Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives on Tuesday arrested Mr MacGill, 52, at Chatswood Police Station, where he was charged with knowingly taking part in large-scale commercial drug supply.
Mr MacGill was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Manly Local Court on October 26 and was ordered to forfeit his passport and barred from entering any international departure point or attempting to leave Australia.
Six people were arrested and charged in relation to Mr MacGill’s alleged kidnapping outside his Cremorne apartment in April, 2021. They will reappear Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court later this month.
Mr MacGill played 44 Test matches and three one-day internationals for the Australian cricket team. He retired from the sport in 2008 before making a brief comeback in a 2011-12 T20 series.
