KANPUR: In a bizarre incident, the wedding of a man had to be called off and the bride had to marry the groom’s younger brother in Biwanr’s Newada village of Hamirpur district.
The marriage of a youth Surendra (25), native of Kanha Kheda village under Kadaura police station area of Jalaun, was fixed with a girl from Newada village in Biwaner police station area.
When the marriage procession was about to leave, Surendra was detained by the Kadaura police as his alleged girlfriend had filed a complaint against him for cheating on her.
On Sunday, the groom along with ‘baratis’ (family members and guests from groom’s side) was about to leave for the bride’s home, and everyone was happy and dancing to the DJ tune. However, their happiness was short-lived as the groom was taken into custody by the police following a complaint lodged by his alleged girlfriend accusing him of cheating on her and marrying secretly. After this, the police brought both Surendra, his girlfriend and the bride’s family members to the Newada police station. Meanwhile, some elder members of the panchayat also reached the police station and initiated talks for a mutual settlement.
The panchayat decided that the groom should marry his girlfriend and the bride would marry the groom’s younger brother.
