NEW DELHI: Afghanistan’s star cricketer Rashid Khan recently tied the knot in a grand ceremony in Kabul, making headlines not only for the event itself but also for the unique security measures and dazzling display of firecrackers.
The wedding took place at a prestigious marriage hall in the Afghan capital, guarded by personnel visibly armed with guns, which is a typical sight for high-profile events in Afghanistan.

The extravagant celebration was in line with Pashtun customs, and the event has since gone viral across social media platforms.
Several Afghan cricket stars attended the wedding as fans worldwide took to social media to congratulate Rashid on this momentous day.
Former Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi was among the first to send his best wishes, writing on X (formerly Twitter), “Congratulations to the one and only King Khan, Rashid Khan, on your wedding! Wishing you a lifetime of love, happiness, and success ahead.”
Rashid Khan’s wedding comes at the peak of his cricketing career. Earlier this year, he led Afghanistan to a historic moment in the ICC T20 World Cup, advancing to the semi-finals for the first time.
Under his captaincy, Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh in a thrilling Super Eight match in St. Vincent, securing their place alongside India in the tournament’s semi-finals. Rashid’s outstanding bowling figures of 4-23 were pivotal in the victory, supported by Naveen-ul-Haq’s impressive 4-26.
This victory eliminated cricket giants Australia from the tournament and set Afghanistan up for their semi-final clash against South Africa, which they eventually lost in a low-scoring thriller.
The road to the semi-final, however, sparked celebrations across Afghanistan, adding to Rashid’s already illustrious legacy.
