NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party leader Somnath Bharti, who had previously declared that he would shave his head if Narendra Modi secured a third term as prime minister has refused to fulfill his promise.
In a statement to PTI over the phone, Bharti clarified his stance, saying, “I stated that I would shave my head if he were elected for a third term. However, he has not won on his own, he has won the election with the support of his alliance.”
Bharti emphasized that Modi’s victory was not solely his own achievement but rather a collective effort of the NDA allies.
Bharti further reiterated his position, stating, “I stand by my words. If he did not win on his own, it’s not his victory. So, as I said, if he has not won independently, I will not shave my head.” Prior to the election results, Bharti had publicly announced on the social media platform X, “I will shave off my head if Mr. Modi becomes PM for the third time.”
In response to Bharti’s refusal to shave his head, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor challenged him on X, urging him to either fulfill his promise or quit public life. Kapoor stated, “We know Aam Aadmi Party leaders have no respect for their words, but this time people want Somnath Bharti to either shave his head or quit public life.”
