NEW DELHI: Key congress meet led by president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday adopted resolution to hold nationwide agitation on August 22 to demand resignation of Sebi chief Madhabi Puri Buch following accusations by the US-based firm Hindenburg of a conflict of interest which prevented Buch from pressing charges on Adani Group.
The Congress agitation on August 22 will also include demonstrations at all Enforcement Directorate offices across the states.
This decision was made at a meeting with General Secretaries, in-charges, and PCC Presidents at the All India Congress Committee headquarters.
The Congress party has also demanded immediate government action to address potential conflicts of interest in the regulator’s investigation of the Adani Group and called for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) to investigate the full scope of the “scam” involving senior officials.
Hindenburg Research, which has previously raised serious allegations against the Adani Group, issued a new blog post on Saturday targeting Sebi chairperson Buch. The post accused her and her husband of holding undisclosed stakes in offshore funds allegedly used in the Adani money laundering scheme.
The research firm also criticised Sebi for its alleged lack of enthusiasm in pursuing investigations into Adani’s purported web of shell companies based in Mauritius and other offshore locations. “Sebi has shown a surprising lack of interest in Adani’s alleged undisclosed web of Mauritius and offshore shell entities,” Hindenburg report said.
