Elon Musk has been vocal about his plans to create a permanent human colony on Mars, believing it’s crucial for humanity’s long-term survival. SpaceX, his aerospace company, is developing rockets for space travel, with the Red planet as a primary target. Recently, a report claimed that he even offered to donate sperm to populate a Martian colony. Musk himself has denied these claims.
“Mr. Musk has volunteered his sperm to help seed a colony,” a report by The New York Times said, citing two people familiar with this.
However, replying to a post on X (formerly Twitter), he has clarified he has extended no such offer. An X user shared three screenshots of the above-mentioned report, and praised Musk for making his companies “help with this mission, which involves bioengineering humans better capable of living on Mars.”
“In a time of cynicism, there just aren’t many men who dream like this. Probably rare in any era. We should all be in awe,” he noted. In a reply, Musk said that he has “not fwiw ‘volunteered my sperm’”.
“Best to hear it in the words I have used in many interviews over the years. I have not fwiw ‘volunteered my sperm’. No one at SpaceX has been directed to work on a Mars city. When people have asked to do so, I’ve said we need to focus on getting there first,” he said in a post.

Humans will be “Living In A City On Mars” in next 30 years: Musk
Earlier this year, Musk said that humans may be living in a city on Mars in the next 30 years. He was responding to an X user who said that humans “are just a few years away from landing on Mars”.
“Less than 5 years for uncrewed, less than 10 to land people, maybe a city in 20 years, but for sure in 30, civilization secured,” the billionaire commented.
Previously, after SpaceX launched its Crew-2 mission to orbit, Musk said, “We don’t want to be one of those single planet species, we want to be a multi-planet species.”
