Former President Donald Trump during a heated debate with Vice President Kamala Harris claimed he “probably took a bullet to the head” as a result of rhetoric from the Democrats.
Trump was referring to the near-assassination attempt during a Pennsylvania campaign rally on July 13, where a gunman opened fire, grazing his ear.
During the debate, Harris said that if Trump returned to the White House he would “terminate the constitution of the United States and he would weaponise the Department of Justice against his political enemies.”
The former president linked the attack to remarks made by Harris and her party, stating, “I probably took a bullet to the head because of the things that they say about me.They say that I’m a threat to democracy, they’re the threat to democracy.”
During the incident at the Butler County Fair Grounds, shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire from a nearby rooftop. Secret Service snipers killed Crooks, while Trump’s blood was streaming down his face and later he was rushed off the stage.
The attack also claimed the life of a former fire chief in the crowd and injured two others.
Trump, 78, has continued to question how Crooks evaded security, calling for further investigation. His wife, Melania Trump, also expressed frustration, calling the silence surrounding the event “heavy” and demanding answers as to how the shooter could act undetected for so long.
