NEW DELHI: After hosting country heads during the G20 summit in September, the national capital will also host the summit (meeting of G20 Parliamentary Speakers) in October, a congregation of parliamentarians from across the world for which Speakers from more than 30 countries have already confirmed their participation.
Sources, however, said there was no confirmation about the dates on which the event will be organised as confirmation from several dignitaries is awaited. The G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (also known as Parliamentary20/ ) provides an opportunity to deepen the recognition of G20 member-nations’ efforts and methods of international collaboration in related policies by deliberating upon emerging issues faced by the global community. Every year, the G20 strengthens its work by engaging with various stakeholder groups.
Through the Sherpa tracks, 11 working groups, 1 initiative group, and 10 engagement groups meet to discuss and provide recommendations on the G20 agenda and priorities. The Parliaments and other stakeholders are part of the Engagement Groups. The engagement groups that comprise non-government participants from each G20 member often draft recommendations to G20 governments that are taken into account by the G20 and contribute to the policy-making process.
