Back stiffness and pain in the groin area “while playing forward defence” may force Iyer out of the squad, revealed a report in The Indian Express.
The report added that Iyer’s equipment has been flown to his hometown Mumbai instead of the venue of the third Test, Rajkot — which confirms that he won’t be available for selection.
The squad for the last three Tests is likely to be announced by the BCCI selection committee on Friday.
He will reportedly receive treatment at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and hope to recover in time for the Indian Premier League season.
Virat Kohli is expected to remain unavailable for the third Test, after having withdrawn himself from the first two matches in Hyderbad and Visakhapatnam. However, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, who were ruled out of the second Test, are likely to return to the squad.
England opened the series with a win, while India came back to level it at 1-1 in Vizag.
