NEW DELHI: In a massive security scare on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, two intruders jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber during the zero hour and released a yellow gas while two others chanted slogans outside the Parliament premises.
The security breach incident revived the horrific memories of the Parliament attack, in which nine people, including five Pakistan-based terrorists were killed.
Here’s how the security breach unfolded …
* Shortly after the start of the zero hour around 1pm, two men with visitors’ passes jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery.
* One of the intruders was spotted jumping over the benches, while the other was left dangling from the gallery before jumping into the chamber.
* The men released yellow gas from cannisters and shouted slogans. This happend when BJP MP Khagen Murmu was speaking while BJP’s Rajendra Agrawal was in the chair.
* The intruders were then overpowered by the Lok Sabha members, who thrashed them before handing them over to the security personnel. “It all happened in half a minute or one minute,” BJP’s Rajendra Agarwal said.
* At around the same time, two people, including a woman, sprayed coloured gas from canisters while shouting slogans ‘tanashahi nahi chalegi’ outside the Parliament premises.
* All four intruders have been arrested and identified. The two people involved in the Lok Sabha incident are Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan. Sharma had come to the visitor’s gallery as a guest of Mysuru BJP Lok Sabha member Prathap Simha.
* The man and woman who chanted slogans outside Parliament have been identified as Neelam, 42, of Haryana’s Hisar, and Amol Shinde, 25.
* Manoranjan D and Sagar Sharma had visitors’ passes for 45 minutes but they stayed in the visitors’ gallery for close to two hours, in violation of the rules, sources said. This was because security staff used to usher visitors out from the gallery were absent due to other duties.
* Police said that two more people were reportedly involved in the incident. Lalit and Vikram are suspected to be the accomplices of the four intruders. while Vikram has been detained from Gurugram, Delhi Police teams have been sent to various locations to nab Lalit, sources said.
* The accused devised the plan a few days ago and they carried out a recce before coming to Parliament on Wednesday. Interrogation of Amol Shinde revealed that the six accused had known each other for the past four years through social media.
