LUCKNOW: Videos ofsaffron scarf-wearing men washing the Gauri Shanker Mahadev Mandir with ‘Gangajal’, hours after Akhilesh Yadav offered prayers there on Monday, triggered strong reactions from the Samajwadi Party chief on Tuesday. He said it reflects how BJP feels for the PDA pariwar which stands for Pichrde (backwards), Dalits and Alpsankhyak (minorities).
“People of Kannauj and members of PDA pariwar across the state who have watched the video will vote against the BJP in bulk. BJP itself will be ‘washed away’ by people’s votes,” Akhilesh told reporters in Etawah.
Akhilesh said the BJP is using such tactics as it does not have answers for its failures. “BJP does not want to talk about their failure to double the income of farmers. It doesn’t have answers for not being able to give 2 crore jobs every year it had promised. It’s mum on recruitment paper leak and is yet to announce the dates for re-examinations,” he said. “BJP is afraid that people will ask these questions and therefore trying everything to shift the focus,” he said.
The SP chief had visited Gauri Shanker Mahadev Mandir in Kannauj on Monday along with party leaders and supporters. Allegations are that some SP functionaries who accompanied Akhilesh were not Hindus and some of them did not remove their shoes while entering the temple. Later a video went viral in which some men were seen cleaning and wiping the marble floor of a courtyard said to be the same temple.
Akhilesh attacked the BJP in all the three public meetings he addressed in Etawah, Akbarpur and Unnao on Tuesday to seek votes for party candidates. He attacked the BJP for its claims of a “double engine” government saying that one of the engines is missing from all the party’s election campaign material.
