NEW DELHI: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief spokesperson Suhail Bukhari on Tuesday quit the party after not being given the mandate to contest in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, PTI reported.
He had anticipated contesting from the Wagoora-Kreeri seat, but the return of former minister Basharat Bukhari to the PDP last month reduced his chances of securing the nomination.
The journalist-turned-politician was a close associate of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and had also acted as her advisor during her tenure as chief minister.
Assembly elections in the Union territory is set to begin from September 18 in three phases. The votes would be counted on October 4.
