Faggan Singh Kulaste, Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Steel, was defeated by Congress candidate Chainsingh Warkade in the 2023 Madhya Pradesh assembly elections. Kulaste, who was among the three ministers contesting from the state, lost from the Niwas constituency by 9,723 votes. Kulaste was amongst the seven members of parliament that the Bharatiya Janata Party fielded in Madhya Pradesh.
Warkade secured 99,644 votes whereas Kulaste got 89,921 votes. Kulaste has represented the Mandla constituency in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly multiple times. Additionally, he has been elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) to the Lok Sabha from the Mandla constituency.
Kulaste, a stalwart in state politics, secured victory in six consecutive elections from Mandla in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2014, and 2019. The only blemish on record was in 2009 when he lost to Congress candidate Basori Singh Masram by a margin of 65,053 votes.
Kulaste reclaimed the Mandla seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, triumphing over Congress candidate Kamal Singh Maravi with an impressive margin of 97,674 votes.
