An elderly man who suffered serious injuries after allegedly being struck during a street brawl on Queensland’s Gold Coast has died in hospital.
The 75-year-old got into a fight with a 50-year-old man along Marine Pde, Labrador, about 6pm on October 6.
Queensland Police allege the younger man struck the older man during the fight, causing the older man to fall and hit his head.
He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition but died as a result of his injuries on Thursday.
The 50-year-old local man was initially charged with serious assault person over 60 but has since had his charge upgraded to manslaughter.
He’s due to face his upgraded charge before Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.
In a statement made after the incident, a Queensland Police spokesperson said the man stayed with his alleged victim for some time before leaving on a scooter.
Labrador is a suburb of the Gold Coast, about 73km south of Brisbane.
