NEW DELHI: The video footage of the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated terrorist in India, has emerged online, revealing a ‘contract killing’ carried out by armed men, as per a report by Canada-based CBC News.
The incident took place on June 18, 2023 in Surrey, British Columbia, when the Khalistani leader was shot and killed outside a Gurdwara. The video, obtained by The Fifth Estate and verified by multiple sources, shows a highly coordinated attack involving six men and two vehicles.
The targeted killing of Nijjar, who was the president of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, led to accusations from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that the Indian government was involved in the assassination. This claim was denied by India, resulting in a strained diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
The video captures Nijjar leaving the Gurdwara’s parking lot in his grey Dodge Ram pickup truck. As he approaches the exit, a white sedan blocks his path, and two men quickly approach and shoot him before fleeing in a silver Toyota Camry.
Despite nearly nine months passing since the incident, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has yet to identify suspects or make any arrests relating to Nijjar’s killing.
The assassination caused a significant diplomatic dispute between India and Canada. After Trudeau accused India of involvement in Nijjar’s murder on Canadian soil in September, last year, India categorically denied these allegations, dismissing them as ‘absurd and motivated.’ The Ministry of External Affairs stated that Canada has failed to provide any evidence supporting its claims regarding the killing.
