PRAYAGRAJ: The Mela police for the first time would adopt innovative safety measures, including vigil by underwater drones and sonar technology, during the Maha Kumbh-2025 to make the 45-day mega event more secure for visitors.
“Underwater drones would be deployed to monitor the submerged areas. In the event of an accident, sonar technology would be used to detect underwater conditions and retrieve valuables,” additional DG (Prayagraj zone) Bhanu Bhaskar.
He said the responsibility for both surface and underwater security has been entrusted to the PAC and Water Police.
“Visitors safety remains the top priority for the mela police administration. To address potential risks, enhanced security would be in place at the ghats and rivers, ensuring vigilance during both routine and emergencies,” Bhaskar added.
He said with the expansion of ghats, an 8Km long deep-water barricading would be constructed inside the twin rivers to prevent any mishaps.
A water scooter brigade would also patrol the areas between the ghats and rivers. This brigade, equipped with 25 water scooters, would ensure rapid response during emergencies.
“A budget of ₹6.25 lakh has been approved for this purpose. Additionally, two floating rescue stations would be established at the Sangam and VIP Ghats, equipped with first aid and essential equipment to handle accidents. Separate boats, including Anaconda boats, would also be provided to the PAC, with the tendering process for all equipment beginning on Oct 1,” he said.
