MUMBAI: As reported by TOI on July 25, Mahayuti government has expanded Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana, which was meant to provide three free gas cylinders per year to 52.2 lakh households, to include beneficiaries of Ladki Bahin Yojana for underprivileged women. This is expected to triple the number of beneficiaries and raise the cost of the scheme from Rs 860 crore to Rs 3,200 crore per year, official sources said.
Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana, announced in the state budget in June, was meant to provide three gas cylinders per year to 52.2 lakh households which are beneficiaries of Centre’s Ujjwala Yojana.However, on Tuesday, the state issued a government resolution to include claimants of Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana under the free cylinder scheme.
Ladki Bahin Yojana, which was also announced in the budget, will provide a stipend of Rs 1,500 per month for underprivileged women.
The state faces assembly polls in Oct and its last budget was laden with sops for voters, especially women.
Those eligible for the scheme on July 1, 2024 will be entitled to the benefit. The beneficiaries will have to pay for cost of the cylinder and will receive the subsidy in their accounts as reimbursement from government.
However, the conditions listed in government resolution state that the benefit will be provided only if the cylinder is in the woman’s name and it will be extended only to one woman per family benefiting from Ladki Bahin Yojana.
