PRAYAGRAJ: The Prayagraj police arrested a 20-year-old man late Thursday night after he was found carrying the body of his mother stuffed in a suitcase in the Daraganj area of the district.
When apprehended, the accused confessed before the police that he had strangled his mother after she refused to give him Rs 5,000 on December 13 at their rented accommodation in Aryanagar locality of Hisar district of Haryana.
Thereafter, he stuffed the body in a suitcase and took it to Prayagraj for immersion.
The accused was identified as Himanshu Kumar, a resident of Gopalganj (Bihar), and the deceased as Pratibha Devi (42). The woman used to work in a cotton mill in Hisar while Himanshu was pursuing his graduation. His father works in Bihar while his elder sister is married. DCP (city) Deepak Bhuker told TOI, “A team of Daraganj police on night patrolling spotted a man between Akshayvat and Sangam zone carrying a trolley bag at around 2.40am.
Sensing something fishy, the police team intercepted him and checked his bag and other luggage.” “During checking, cops recovered the body inside the trolley bag and took the youth into custody,” the DCP added. Himanshu confessed to have strangled his mother in a fit of rage. He further told police that he had prepared two suitcases – one carrying his mother’s body and the other carrying books and clothes. Himanshu said he took a train to Prayagraj on December 13 night and after reaching Prayagraj junction, he hired an e-rickshaw to take the body to Sangam and decided to immerse it on December 14 midnight. Following the incident, Prayagraj police contacted their Hisar counterparts and registered a case under Sections 302 and 201 of IPC. The body has been sent for postmortem.
