KOLKATA: A 38-year-old man killed his wife of 17 years by slitting her throat after rift developed between the two over the instagram reels posted by the 35-year-old woman and the friend circle she developed because of the reels.
The incident took place at Harinarayanpur under Joyanagar police station area on Friday. Police said that Parimal Baidya, the accused, suspected that his wife Aparna was having an affair.Parimal, a mason in profession, is absconding.
The couple has a son and a daughter. The son is a Class-VII student while the daughter studies in nursery. The children were reportedly not at home when the incident took place.
“The couple used to have frequent disputes ever since she started making reels and posting them on social media. The woman had made several friends and she was in regular touch with them, particularly, an official of a money-lending agency, over the phone. Her husband did not like that,” said a police officer.
The couple’s son reportedly came back from a tuition class and saw her mother lying in a pool of blood. After he raised an alarm, locals rushed to the spot and informed the cops.
“There used to be frequent fights between my parents and my father always threatened to kill her. On Thursday night, there was a dispute between my parents,” the boy told the police.
Because of the frequent fights, the woman had even left her husband for some time and went to her parents’ place, said police souirces.
“We have recovered the murder weapon. We have launched a search for Parimal. The body has been sent for postmortem,” said the officer.
