VADODARA/CHHOTA UDEPUR: When a car stopped outside the Zoz police station in Chhota Udepur on Wednesday morning, the police were stunned. A young man stepped out of the car along with a body of a 40-year-old woman which he kept outside the police station.
The deceased identified as Jhinki Nayka was murdered by her husband Remla, 46, late on Tuesday night in Khanpur village of Morbi. And, the couple’s son Hasmukh didn’t just bring his mother’s body but also brought Remla to the police seeking legal action.
The Chhota Udepur police said that Remla, his wife, their sons and the other family members were working as farm labourers in Morbi for the last few months.
They are natives of Chhota Udepur.
“On Tuesday night, when Remla and Jhinki were sleeping in their hutment in Morbi, he suddenly attacked her with a sharp weapon. Jhinki suffered severe injuries on her head and face, and died on the spot. Hearing her screams, Remla’s brothers, who were sleeping outside, rushed in,” said P H Vasava, sub inspector, Zoz police station.
Remla’s family members called their employer Rajesh Davera who too came to the spot. But he advised them to go to their native village in Chhota Udepur and even hired a car for them. Jhinki’s mother who too worked as a farm labourer in the same place too learnt about the incident.
Remla’s sons, his family members and the deceased’s mother decided to leave for their native in Chhota Udepur with the body. They travelled over 410 kilometres overnight but instead of going to their village, Remla’s son Hasmukh took the car to Zoz police station.
“We filed a complaint and transferred it to Morbi as the crime had occurred there,” Vasava told TOI.
The investigators questioned Remla about the reason behind killing his wife, but he refused to say anything. Remla was arrested by the Morbi police on Wednesday evening and taken back to Morbi.
