Meta‘s suite of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Messenger, and WhatsApp are experiencing widespread outage across the globe, including India. Reports of service disruptions began surging on Downdetector.com shortly before 11 pm IST, with users across the globe experiencing difficulties accessing these popular services.
The outage appears to be affecting users in various ways, with some unable to access the platforms entirely, while others are experiencing slow loading times, errors, and difficulties posting content. Reports suggest that some users have reported seeing all Facebook posts with zero comments, indicating a potential issue with the platform’s comment functionality.

Facebook, Instagram most hit Meta platform

Users in the US registered more than 97,000 reports of problems related to the app and website. In the US, Instagram seems to be most affected by the outage with approx 72,000 reports, and in India, about 31,000 people are reported to have experienced difficulties in accessing the platform.
In India, there were about 30,500 reports of WhatsApp down at peak outage. In the US, about 12,000 people reported problems with accessing the platform on phones.
Meta has yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the outage or the expected time of resolution. However, there are indications that some services are slowly starting to come back online for certain users nearly an hour after the initial reports.
People also flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to share memes and posts about the outage.

Second major outage in 2024

In March this year, Meta-owned platforms – Instagram and Facebook – were down. Facebook and Instagram users across the globe faced problems due to a glitch. Several users posted screenshots about facing problems with these two social media platforms on X, formerly Twitter.
