JAIPUR: While political parties and their candidates are busy setting agendas and narratives to win the poll battle in Rajasthan, an independent MLA is hoping to re-enter the assembly by taking the “public service” route.
Om Prakash Hudla, the MLA from Mahua in Dausa district, is leaving no stones unturned to safeguard his seat. In a video uploaded on social media, he was seen cleaning the toilet of a hospital. Hudla also sold vegetables in a nearby market and polished the shoes of people.
“Inspiration for such service comes from the blessings of the people,” the MLA told TOI over the phone. “I wanted to send out a message that humility is strength,” he added.Hudla said he launched the sanitation drive as the cleanliness week was on. He reached the government hospital with his supporters at 4.30pm on Tuesday, and took stock of the facilities.
The MLA found the toilets dirty and expressed displeasure over it. He ordered a brush and cleaner and started cleaning the toilet himself. He, along with his supporters and the sanitation staff, also washed the hospital. Hudla later enquired about the facilities at the hospital from the doctors, and met the patients.
On Gandhi Jayanti, the MLA had polished people’s shoes outside the local police station. He said that even before the 2018 assembly elections, he had “taken the blessings” of the people by polishing their shoes.
