A Queensland father who jokingly suggested he was the mystery lottery winner was shocked to learn he had won $1 million.

A massive search for the second division one winner in Wednesday’s Gold Lotto saw a call-out on social media for the mystery ticket owner to come forward.

The Warner man, who lives in the Moreton Bay region, said he saw the post on his local Facebook community group which reminded him he’d bought a ticket.

“I got sent a screenshot of a Facebook post from our local community group by my brother,” he said.

“I sent him a message back and said, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if it was me?’.”

The man then decided to check his own ticket and the million-dollar win alerted him on his phone.

He said he couldn’t believe it.

“I think I’ve scanned it for a total of 17 times today,” he said.

“Thank you so much.”

The man, who has remained anonymous, said he almost didn’t buy a ticket but decided to after his daughter said nobody ever wins lotto.

“I said to her, ‘Well someone must win! You have to be in it to win it’,” he said.

The man said he’s “not too sure” how he’ll spend his winnings but is looking forward to enjoying 2024.

“I’m in shock. I don’t even know where to start,” he said.

“I’m honestly not too sure.

“We do have a holiday coming up and this will definitely boost our plans.

“We will no doubt be celebrating tonight.”

His winning entry was purchased at Nextra Warner at the Warner Village Shopping Centre, Warner.
