A large-scale rescue operation has extended into its second day after a hiker became stranded at Mt Barney in Queensland’s Scenic Rim.
Emergency services were called to the Mt Barney National Park, 90km southwest of Brisbane, at about 11am on Saturday, where a hiker in his 30s became stranded after suffering lower leg injuries.
Poor weather and the area’s rugged and steep, rocky terrain have prolonged the rescue operation.
The man remains in a stable condition.
Overnight, temperatures reached lows to 18.9C, with high humidity levels recorded which reached up to 96 per cent.
Highs of 27.9C and a low of 18.7C and largely cloudy skies have been forecast for Sunday.
At 9am local time, the man has yet to be retrieved, and a Queensland Ambulance Service helicopter has been deployed to the area.
Mt Barney is the highest point in the Mt Barney National Park, reaching a peak of 1354m above sea level.
