BHOPAL: A Special Armed Force (SAF) constable of the Madhya Pradesh Police was murdered by his policeman father and brother in Gwalior in the wee hours of Thursday after a quarrel over why his marriage wasn’t being arranged, police said on Friday.
The victim, 32-year-old Anurag Rajawat, was killed in the official quarters of his father, head constable Sukhveer Rajawat, said police.Apart from Sukhveer, who is posted with the 13th Battalion SAF, the other accused are his younger son Govind, 22, and a family friend, Bhim Singh Parihar.
According to police, Anurag, who was posted in Bhopal, frequently quarreled with his family, demanding that his marriage be arranged but his kin were wary of getting him wed because of his alcoholism.
On Wednesday night, another quarrel broke out in Gwalior when Anurag’s mother was away in Bhopal. This time things got out of hand and Anurag was killed.
Around 1.30am that night, a police patrol saw three men on a motorcycle near Girwai police station, around 4km from the SAF compound, and grew suspicious when they tried to evade the cops. They were detained. A little later, a body was found dumped in a clump of bushes near the periphery of the SAF compound, bound and with a head injury. It was Anurag.
The police questioned Sukhveer, Govind, and Bhim Singh, who admitted to the murder and were placed under arrest.
Govind revealed the sequence of events to police. According to the cops, he said that after Anurag began quarreling, he was restrained and confined to the house but the altercation kept escalating until Govind fatally attacked him. They tried to dispose of the body quietly but were spotted by a police patrol on the way back.
