BHOPAL: Instead of going ‘beep’, the 21,000-odd employees of central discom in Madhya Pradesh are going ‘click’. Clicking selfies, that is, to prove they are in office, at their desk, on time.
MP’s power department is switching over to a new selfie-based attendance system under which employees need to upload their own pictures at their desk on an app while starting work. The system records the selfie along with the coordinates of the place where it was uploaded. They have to repeat the process while leaving office after their shift. The selfie has to be taken in their chair.
The MP Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Ltd, or central discom, is the first to implement the system which will be extended to other discoms. Central discom is responsible for Bhopal and 15 other districts, including Gwalior.
“The move is aimed at bringing about better discipline among employees and ensuring better consumer services. This system was implemented phase-wise. Initially, outsourced employees were not in this system, now all 21,000 employees across 16 districts are using the same system,” spokesperson for central discom, senior publicity officer, Manoj Dwivedi told TOI. “This initiative is bringing out better results in terms of consumer service and consumer experience,” he added.
Besides ensuring ease, the move ensures the presence of employees at their designated time at their place of work, particularly units like distribution offices where most public interactions occur. Apart from marking attendance, employees use the new system to apply for leaves.
