NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday arrested Dixit Patel, the owner of Jay Jalaram School in Godhra, Gujarat, in connection with alleged malpractices in the NEET-UG exam. Patel was apprehended in the early hours from his residence and is being taken to Ahmedabad by the CBI to acquire his remand, according to public prosecutor Rakesh Thakor.
Thakor said that, “As the case has been handed over to the CBI by the Gujarat government, a CBI team will produce him (Dixit Patel) before a designated court in Ahmedabad to acquire his remand.”
Jay Jalaram School, situated near Godhra in Panchmahal district, was one of the designated centres where the NEET-UG exam was held on May 5. Patel’s arrest marks the sixth in the case, wherein the accused allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh from candidates to help them clear the test.
The CBI’s investigation continues as they seek to uncover the full extent of the malpractices involved in the NEET-UG exam at this centre.
Earlier on Friday, CBI arrested a journalist in connection with their investigation into the NEET UG paper leak case. The suspect has been identified as Jamaluddin.
According to Sources, he worked for a Hindi newspaper named ‘Prabhat Khabar’. CBI’s investigation has revealed that he was an alleged associate of two of the accused office bearers of Oasis school in Hazari Bagh, who were arrested earlier.
On Friday, the CBI also arrested the principal and vice principal of Oasis school in Hazaribagh.
The accused principal, Dr Ehsanul Haque, was the district coordinator of the NEET examination in Hazaribag and his deputy, Imtiaz Alam was the center superintendent at Oasis School beside being the NTA’s observer.
