NEW DELHI: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Friday expressed his disapproval over RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav‘s dig ‘Parivarvaad’ jibe on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that he has never supported such slogans.
Omar Abdullah, a member of the INDIA bloc, an opposition alliance formed to challenge the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, stated that these slogans do not influence voters. He further said that voters are more concerned about how their current issues will be resolved.
“I have never been in favour of such slogans and we have never benefited from them. Whenever we use such slogans, it harms us,” Omar said.
“Voters are not influenced by all of this, they want to know how the issues they are facing at present will be resolved…We do self-goal or remove the goalkeeper by giving such statements and allow PM Modi to score a goal…,” he added.
The National Conference leader made these remarks during a media interaction in Srinagar on Friday.
Addressing a rally in Patna, Lalu Prasad launched an unusual attack against PM Modi, stating that the PM was not a Hindu and is attacking dynasty politics as he does not have a family himself. Lalu lambasted the PM for criticising “parivarvad (dynastic rule)” in politics and spreading hatred.
“What is the matter PM Modi? Is there an issue? Why are you attacking dynastic politics? Tell us why you don’t have any family. The PM accuses people with big families of dynastic politics but we are only fighting for our families,” he had said.
When asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Kashmir, Abdullah questioned whether any tangible outcomes were achieved. He expressed disappointment that the Prime Minister did not address the restoration of democracy or the timeline for holding elections in the Union Territory.
“You tell me, has something come out of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit? I did not see anything new. (He said) same things. What the people wanted to hear, like restoration of the democracy. I am aware that the Prime Minister can’t himself announce the elections,” Omar said.
“It is the Election Commission which announces the elections. The least we can expect from the Prime Minister… We wanted to hear that the elections would be held by September, a deadline set by the Supreme Court to hold elections in the Union Territory…Restoration of full statehood, not half or any other model,” he added.
