NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested five people in connection to enticing people with job opportunities in Cambodia, Laos, and the Golden Triangle SEZ and subsequently coercing them into working at cyber fraud centers within these nations.
The arrests were made after raids at 15 different locations across Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh.
Last month, the external affairs ministry cautioned Indian nationals against falling prey to human traffickers promising lucrative job opportunities in Cambodia.
In an advisory, the ministry called upon Indians looking at job opportunities in the Southeast Asian country to thoroughly check the background of the prospective employer.
