Škoda H’CITY buses make use of polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells as the power source, in which hydrogen (stored in roof-mounted tanks) and oxygen reactions take place, and batteries in which the energy produced is stored. As per the Czech-origin carmaker, this propulsion allows for a driving ranfe of around 350 km on a single refuelling.
It will be interesting to see if an Indian manufacturer can introduce a hydrogen-powered bus for the country in the coming years given the government’s push for cleaner, and greener mobility. That said, a host of States have already started making use of fully-electric buses. As per estimates, over 800 electric buses are currently operational in Delhi – the highest for any city in India. CM Arvind Kejriwal previously claimed that the city will have 1,900 electric buses by the end of this year.
