NSW Premier Chris Minns is rushing back to Sydney from a family holiday following the fatal stabbing rampage at Westfield Bondi.

A man armed with large knife stabbed several people, including a baby, at the popular shopping centre in Sydney east just after 3.30pm on Saturday.

At least five people are dead.

The knifeman was shot dead by a police officer who was in the area at the time.

“I am horrified to hear about the events at Bondi Junction this afternoon,” Mr Minns said in a statement.

“I am making immediate arrangements to return to Sydney.

“I want to thank NSW Police, emergency services and first responders and the community for their bravery in the face of this shocking incident.”

It’s understood the Premier had gone away with his family for the NSW school holidays.
