Oliver and Isla have topped the list of Western Australia’s most popular baby names for the fourth year in a row.

According to WA’s Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages more than 220 Olivers were registered this year, while 166 Islas were recorded.

It is the ninth time in 10 years that Oliver has been ranked number one for boy names.

Noah was the second most popular boy name for the fourth year in a row, while Olivia came second for girl names for the second consecutive year.

Matilda and Lucas were the only new names to join the top 10 lists this year.

1. Isla (first position in 2022, 2021, 2020)

2. Olivia (second position in 2022)

8. Matilda (11th position in 2022)

9. Ava

10. Ella

Top 10 Names For Boys

1. Oliver (first position in 2022, 2021, 2020)

2. Noah (second position in 2022, 2021, 2020)

5. Jack

6. Theodore

7. Hudson

8. Levi

9. William

10. Lucas (13th position in 2022) tied with Thomas (sixth in 2022)

However, the regions had some different names to the overall state results.

Amelia was the most popular name for girls in the South West/Great Southern, while Kai topped the boys’ names in the Kimberley/Pilbara/Gascoyne.

Arthur and Grace came first in the Wheatbelt/Midwest, while Noah was the boys’ number one in Goldfields-Esperance and Hudson

took the top spot for boys in Peel.

Margaret and John remain WA’s most popular names on record.

John was the most popular boy name for 21 consecutive years from 1930 — when published records began — to 1950 and remained in the top 10 for a whopping 42 consecutive years.

Margaret was the number one girls name for 22 consecutive years from 1930 to 1951.

There were 32,143 births registered in WA this year as at December 27.
