NEW DELHI: More than 280 people were moved to safety after they reported hearing “explosion-like” sounds accompanied by tremors in the Anakkallu area, police said on Wednesday.
A total of 287 individuals from 85 families were relocated to a school building late Tuesday night following the alarming reports. The first sound was heard around 9.15pm, followed by two more at 10.15pm and 10.45pm, each accompanied by mild tremors.
The sounds were detected within a two-kilometer radius, creating panic among local residents. Police, revenue officials, and local representatives quickly responded to the situation, arriving at the scene to ensure the safety of the families.
By Wednesday morning, villagers began returning to their homes as the situation stabilized, according to a police officer.
