NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack against Mamata Banerjee government over the Sandeshkhali incident and accused the chief minister of going out of her way to save TMC leader Shahjahan Shiekh, who is accused of “sexual assault and land grabbing”.
“Entire country has been reeling with anger after seeing what TMC has done to the sisters of Sandeshkhali,” PM Modi said at a rally at Arambagh in West Bengal.”It was due to the pressure of Bengal BJP leaders that the government was forced to arrest the Sandeshkhali accused, ” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also slammed the leaders of opposition’s INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) bloc for their silence on the sufferings of women in Sandeshkhali. He criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s for belittling the incident. “You will be shocked to hear what Congress president said on Sandeshkhali incident. He said these things are normal in Bengal,” PM Modi said and added “I feel ashamed to see that leaders of opposition bloc INDIA are silent on Sandeshkhali atrocities.” “For INDIA bloc leaders, supporting the corrupt and appeasement politics are of prime importance,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister also attacked the Mamata government over corruption in the state.”The TMC is involved in corruption in all spheres of life – from appointment in govt jobs to cattle smuggling,” PM Modi said. Taking a dig at Mamata’s protests, he said “The chief minister of West Bengal sits on protest to save the corrupt.” The Prime Minister raked up the attack on ED team in the state and said “even central agencies not allowed to function in Bengal.”
