NEW DELHI: Shamika Ravi, a key economic adviser to PM Narendra Modi, has slammed the comments by a senior Congress functionary alleging that she received funds from billionaire investor George Soros-backed Open Society Foundation and termed the functionary’s statement “entirely incorrect.”
“In 2006-07 The Open Society Funded Indian School of Business (for work on financial inclusion) – where I was an assistant professor teaching and researching on the topic. No money comes directly to any faculty member,” Shamika Ravi, member of the Economic Advisory Council to the PM (EAC-PM) said in a post on microblogging site X to rebut Congress’ charge that she personally received funds from the controversial currency speculator and hedge-fund operator.
“18 years later, I joined the EAC-PM. I have never been more proud of my work, my nation, or my Prime Minister. Meanwhile in 2020, George Soros declares his anti-India designs and guess who swarm towards him?!,” Ravi said in her post.
Responding to Ravi’s post, a user said she must file a defamation suit against Congress functionary Pawan Khera. Ravi said “Yes, it’s a fit case for defamation.”
Khera had alleged in a post on X that PM’s adviser and secretary to the govt Shamika Ravi had received a grant from the Soros-backed Open Society Foundation.
Congress had also hit out at BJP Tuesday asking why the government has not shut down businesses of George Soros or closed the funds backed by him if he was indulging in anti-India activities.
The party’s response had come after BJP alleged that top members of Congress were colluding with Soros and entities backed by him to destabilise the country.
