CUTTACK: The Orissa High Court has warned that in case encroachments reappear near drainage channels in Cuttack city after eviction, inspectors in-charge (IIC)s of police stations concerned might have to bear the cost of their removal by Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), reports Lalmohan Patnaik.
The warning came on Tuesday while a special bench of Justice S K Sahoo and Justice V Narasingha – constituted by Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh recently for adjudicating on PILs concerning civic problems in Cuttack – was hearing issues related to glitches while connecting drains from different areas of the city to the main water channel.
On May 9, the court ordered CMC to ensure removal of encroachments in and around any water channel and made it clear that if there is further encroachment, IICs should be held accountable. When the matter was taken up again, CMC’s counsel Debashis Nayak informed the court that encroachments have been removed from Link Road to Badambadi and from OMP Square to Nua Bazaar. The rest of the encroachments would be removed soon.
