NEW DELHI: Newsclick founder Prabir Purkayastha and two others have been arrested in connection with probe in portal’s foreign funding.
The Delhi Police said that they have questioned 46 suspects and seized digital devices, documents for examination.
The arrest comes hours after Delhi Police Special Cell conducted raids on over 30 locations linked to the news website NewsClick in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad.

The raids targeted the residences of journalists and employees associated with the website. During the raids, the police confiscated a substantial amount of electronic evidence, including laptops, mobile phones, and data dumps from hard disks.
Among those questioned were journalists Urmilesh, Aunindyo Chakravarty, Abhisar Sharma, Paranjoy Guha Thakurta as well as historian Sohail Hashmi and D Raghunandan of the Centre for Technology & Development. Police posed a list of 25 questions on various issues, including their foreign travels, protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Shaheen Bagh as well as the farmers’ agitation, sources said.
The opposition parties have slammed the Centre over raids on journalists, alleging the “coercive” actions were directed only against those who speak truth to power, even as the government asserted that probe agencies are independent and work in accordance with law.
