BENGALURU: The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike‘s Narayana Gowda faction targeted non-Kannada signboards and name plates in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Activists held rallies in prominent business areas like MG Road, Brigade Road, Lavelle Road, and others.
They alleged a disregard for Karnataka’s official language, Kannada, by several establishments. Malls, shops, and multinational companies faced the activists’ protests as they defaced non-Kannada signages.Subsequently, police took KRV convener T A Narayana Gowda and other agitators into preventive custody.
Gowda emphasized that Karnataka businesses should prioritize Kannada on signboards, citing the rule requiring 60% Kannada inclusion. He clarified that while they respect business operations, they demand respect for the state language in signage. Failure to comply, Gowda warned, would restrict their functioning in Karnataka.
