A woman has died in an alleged stabbing attack in one of Brisbane’s richest suburbs – the second horror stabbing death to hit Australia within 24 hours.
About 8.45am on Thursday morning, Queensland police were called to an Oxford Street address in Hamilton, a leafy suburb east of the CBD, on reports of a disturbance.
A woman, aged in her 40s, sustained several stab wounds and was transported to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where she later passed away, police said.
A 55-year-old woman is assisting police with their investigation following the alleged attack.
“Police will allege the two women were known to each other but not in a familial setting,” the police said.
“Investigations are continuing. Detectives urge anyone who may have information to contact police.”
The woman’s death comes less than 24 hours after the brutal alleged murder of Julie Seed in broad daylight in Adelaide on Wednesday afternoon.
South Australian Police allege Shaun Michaels Dunk, 30, stabbed Ms Seed at Real Estate Agents Group on Lydia St in Plympton at about 3.40pm.
Mr Dunks has since been charged with murder.
He will appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.
SA Health confirmed the man had been released from their care just two days earlier.
He had been admitted on an inpatient treatment order, and the state’s chief psychiatrist will review the case.
