NEW DELHI: The Ram Lalla idol was brought to the Ayodhya temple premises on Wednesday amid loud chants of “Jai Shree Ram”. However, the world will have to wait until the consecration, a week later, to catch the first glimpse of the idol within the main temple.
The idol will be placed in Ram temple’s sanctum sanctorum on January 18, and the consecration ceremony will take place in a mega event on January 22 in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other dignitaries.

Here’s all you need to know about the Ram Lalla idol:
- The 51-inch-tall black stone idol of Ram Lalla has been made by Mysuru sculptor Arun Yogiraj.
- The idol is made of stone with an estimated weight of 150 to 200 kg. It represents the form of a 5-year-old boy and is intended to be installed in a standing position.
- A team of 121 acharyas, led by Kashi-based Vedic scholar and priest Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid are overseeing the rituals leading up to the main event on January 22.
- The Pran Pratistha (consecration) of the idol will take place during the auspicious Paush Shukla Dwadashi ‘Abhijeet Muhurta’ from 12:20 pm to 1 pm, January 22.
- On January 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Nritya Gopal ji Maharaj, UP governor Anandiben Patel, and all the temple trustees are scheduled to be present within the sacred space of the temple known as ‘Garbh Griha.’
- On January 18, formal rituals begin with Ganesh Ambika Puja, Varun Puja, Matrika Puja, Brahmin Varan, Vastu Puja, etc.
- A team of scientists at CSIR-CBRI designed the “Surya Tilak,” a system using lenses and mirrors, to channel sunlight onto Ram Lalla’s forehead in the Ayodhya temple every Ram Navami.
- The temple’s structural analysis, modifications, and seismic hazard analysis were conducted by CSIR-labs, ensuring that it can withstand earthquakes of 8 magnitude and other environmental conditions.
- The Ram Janmabhoomi Temple will be open for ‘darshan’ for the general public from January 23.
