A young woman has died and a teenager has been rushed to hospital following a shock collision in central Queensland.

The 19-year-old driver and her 17-year-old female passenger were travelling in a Holden Berlina sedan along Crane Ave in Rockhampton early on Saturday morning.

At about 3am the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree, a Queensland Police spokesman said.

Officers attempted to treat the female driver but she was declared deceased at the scene.

The teenage passenger was rushed to Rockhampton Hospital.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.

Police have urged anyone who witnessed the incident, may have further information or who has dashcam footage, to come forward.
