KULLU: The naked bodies of two Russian tourists – a 37-year-old man and a woman (21) – were found in Parvati Valley of Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district Thursday evening. Police spotted the bodies of Beletsky Maksim and Rantseva Anna floating in a hot spring pool at Tegri, 2km from Manikaran.
There were cut marks on Maksim’s wrists and the faces of both were swollen, cops said Friday.Mobile phones and passports of the two were lying nearby.
Police also found a note purportedly written by Anna that states her phone should be sent to her family in Russia through the embassy. Police are probing if the two died by suicide.
Will investigate all angles in Russians’ death case
Another note recovered from the spot requests that the duo’s possessions be sent to the Russian embassy.
“Initially, we suspected it to be a double murder case, but, after finding the notes, we are investigating whether it was a suicide pact. It could also be a case of drug overdose. We are probing all angles,” police said.
The bodies were sent for postmortem to the government zonal hospital .Kullu ASP Sanjiv Chauhan said the Russian embassy had been informed about the deaths. “We have started gathering evidence. A forensics team was called to the spot. We will crack the case shortly,” the ASP said.
Parvati Valley, notorious for easy availability of drugs, is thronged by hundreds of foreign tourists every year.
