BATHINDA: One of the key accused in the 2015 Guru Granth Sahib sacrilege case has named Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim and his “socially adopted” daughter, Honeypreet, for the first time, as main conspirators in the case in his statement recorded under CrPC section 164 in a Chandigarh court on Feb 26.
Pardeep Kaler, in his statement, claimed the conspiracy was hatched in the presence of Ram Rahim and Honeypreet in Delhi in April 2015 and Honeypreet instigated the dera followers to execute the sacrilege incidents.Kaler was arrested last month after evading the law since 2018.
The bir, or Saroop, a physical copy of the Guru Granth Sahib, was stolen from a gurdwara in Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village in Faridkot district on June 1, 2015.

According to Kaler’s statement, he was called to Delhi to meet the dera head in March-April 2015. At the meeting, Honeypreet, Rakesh Dirba, Harsh Dhuri, Sandeep Bareta, Mohinderpal Bittu and others were already present with the dera head. “Bittu told them that Sikh preacher Harjinder Singh Manjhi in a congregation made people go against the dera head and that they threw away their dera lockets, comprising pictures of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh,” according to Kaler.
“An enraged Honeypreet called for a befitting reply and asked to desecrate the Guru Granth Sahib. The dera head told them to execute Honeypreet’s instructions at the earliest, assigning the job to Mohinderpal,” Kaler claimed in his statement. tnn
