MUMBAI: Sanjay Kumar Verma, who belongs to the 1990-batch IPS cadre, has been appointed as Maharashtra’s new director general of police (DGP) on Tuesday, according to an official announcement.
Currently holding the position of Director General of Legal and Technical, Verma takes over from Rashmi Shukla.
The change in leadership came after the Election Commission directed Shukla’s removal from the state police chief position in response to opposition parties’ complaints.
The official confirmed that Verma will continue in service until April 2028, when he is due to retire.
